Textiles Workshop

This exciting two day Mixed Media Creative Textiles event provides the opportunity to design and create a mixed media textile outcome.

The two day workshop is for textile enthusiasts of all levels.

Friday July 3rd and Saturday July 4th 2026

DAY 1. Friday 3rd July 2026

• Introduction to Dissolvable Fabric, Applique & Free motion embroidery.

• Free motion (free machine embroidery) literally allows you to ‘draw using stitch’.

• Dissolvable fabric is a strong, durable silk-like fabric for you to machine embroider onto and which dissolves on impact with hot water.

• Applique. Quite simply applying one fabric onto another using various methods of application.

• Planning your design or selecting an image from my collection (to be discussed prior to the textile weekend).

• Preparing silk for outcome by stretching the fabric onto a frame.

• Applying silk paint as a base for applique, machine stitch & dissolvable fabric.

• Setting up sewing machine and beginning textile outcome.

DAY 2. Saturday 4th July

• Production day. The entire day is spent continuing to develop textile outcomes and reviewing and refining individual textile pieces as work develops.

• The workshops are structured and conducted in a friendly, relaxed setting with group demonstrations and individual guidance given throughout the two day event.

• You will need to provide your own sewing machine which has the free motion facility and which you have experiencing operating.

• Sewing threads, embroidery hoops, wooden frames for stretching silk, pins and fabrics for applique are all provided. One piece of silk 30 x 30cm and dissolvable fabric provided. Extra pieces of fabric are available on the day for a small fee. Protective aprons are also provided.

TIME: Both days 10.30am – 4.30pm
