DESCRIPTION:RICHARD WOOD\nTHE NORTH INGRAINED\nBorn in rural Lancashire and brought up in a small village on the edge of the West Pennine Moors, Richard is inspired by the architecture of the Industrial Revolution that has so shaped the landscape of this region.\nGuided in the first instance by the existing grain of different woods, and fascinated by the medium of pyrography, Richard evokes a palpable sense of life in the industrial North.\nThe scorched wood fittingly represents soot stained bricks and cobbles, as well as smoke filled skies, commonplace near by in the not so distant past. The combination of wood and fire also feels elemental and earthy – harking back to far earlier times in human history – craving a return to small scale simplicity following centuries of mass social change.\n@splinters_and_burns\n
